Can anyone Identify this antique?
It was found in a trunk with a bunch of old photos of my grandmothers after she died. Since it has chrome on it I suspect it is no older than maybe 1930.
The middle part is sring loaded and swivels back and forth a little bit, and looks like it might hold a blade of some kind. there are no handles and it looks like it was made to hang from something.
A couple of guesses people have made is a leather strap shaver
and a leather rope cutter. But none of the family have a clue to what it might be but hated to throw it out with the trash.

Well, you don’t give any dimensions, but it looks like it could be some sort of scraper or a kitchen utensil, like a vegetable grater, you know, for making grated cheese or carrots. It looks like it could be much older than the ’30’s, but if it is chrome, then I guess you’re right. You know, kitchen gadgets don’t change design very much. If you’ve been to an historical museum, you could see what I mean. If they do the job, then people don’t fuss with the design much.
