Antique Singer Sewing Machine

Antique singer sewing machine, how do I thread it and take care of it?

I just purchased a Singer sewing machine at a thrift store the other day. I’m wondering how to thread it. It was threaded when I brought it home but when I was following the string and finding out where it came from (from underneath) and playing with the bobbin, I pulled the thread back out. So I need to know how to rethread it. And isn’t there supposed to be two threads? I’m not sure. If so, how do I thread that too? Also, how do I take care of it. I’ve heard it’s supposed to be oiled every so often. Thanks!

You’ll need a copy of the manual — you can pick up a downloaded version here free for many of the models: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals and it will include instructions on cleaning and oiling the machine, the size and type needles it uses, etc. http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-model-numbers may help you find the model you need.

Without knowing the model number, I can’t really help you much more. And yes, there should be both top and bobbin threads to form a stitch.
