Best way to clean an antique mirror and staining wood?
I just bought a gorgeous ornate antique vanity at a flea market, I’m not sure how old it is but definitely looks like it dates back quite a bit.
The mirror, it has some staining on it though and it’s a bit hazy like as well (you know how old mirrors sometimes have that yellowish tint to them and aren’t perfectly clear, that’s what it looks like) Is there anyway I can clean this mirror up really well, and what should I use? I don’t really want to replace the mirror because I don’t want to decrease the value of the piece.
Also it has some scratches on it wood, nothing drastic, just small scratches. I wanted to know what kind of stain would be good to fill those scratches in with so they aren’t so obvious? I don’t want to stain the whole piece because I like the color. I just want to camouflage the scrapes on it.
there’s nothing you can do to the front of the mirror, the problem is likely in the back. if it’s that important take it to or call and ask a local glass company. as for the wood they make a little stick, about the size of lipstick that comes in many colors and you just rub it back and forth over the scratches until they look better. it’s not the greatest stuff but helps. look in the stain section at the hardware store
